Sadhguru in Canada: Indo-Canadian organization praised for bringing nations together, bringing people together

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has praised the Canada-India Foundation for its work in promoting multiculturalism and building stronger ties between Canada and the Indian communities that now call the country home.

“Continue your great work: bringing nations together, bringing people together is one of the most important things that is needed into this world,” he said. “This Canada-India Foundation is also an effort in that direction. I congratulate you for what you’re doing.”

Sadhguru was speaking at an event in Toronto, where he was honoured with the Global Indian of the Year award for his attempts at encouraging more sustainable ways of living across the world.

At the event, attendees were provided the tools for inner well-being, yoga, and meditation, to address modern challenges like mental health and sustainability. By embracing Sadhguru’s wisdom on soil health, ecological stewardship, and collective responsibility, attendees and viewers alike are inspired to contribute to a conscious planet, fostering harmony between people, cultures, and the environment.

A focus on inner wellbeing

Sadhguru’s focus on inner wellbeing is central to his teachings and underpins much of the work he does through his Isha Foundation. Rather than emphasizing external achievements or material success, he encourages people to cultivate mental clarity, emotional balance, and a sense of inner freedom.

Examples of practices include:

  • Yoga and meditation practices: Designed to help people manage stress, emotions, and energy.
  • Self-responsibility and awareness: Encourages individuals to take responsibility for their own thoughts, emotions, and actions, which fosters a sense of empowerment and reduces mental turbulence.
  • Body-mind connection: Physical health, mental clarity, and emotional balance are interconnected.
  • Emotional and mental clarity: If the mind and emotions are settled, life becomes effortless and joyful, regardless of external conditions.
  • Integration into daily life: Focus on applying inner wellbeing practices in everyday life, from work to relationships.

Fostering dialogue and promoting policy initiatives

The Canada India Foundation (CIF) is a national, non-profit, non-partisan, non-governmental organization established in 2007. Headquartered in Mississauga, Ont., CIF aims to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Canada and India by fostering dialogue, promoting policy initiatives, and increasing awareness of India’s evolving global role.

Its primary objectives include:

  • Promoting bilateral relations: Engaging in public policy discussions to enhance Canada-India ties in areas such as trade, education, culture, and diplomacy.
  • Advocating for the Indo-Canadian community: Encouraging greater participation of Indo-Canadians in public policy and decision-making processes.
  • Raising awareness: Educating Canadians about India’s development, achievements, and global contributions.
